Empathetically reconstructing a quintessential domestic pig, in order to more accurately represent the real animal behind the constructed “meat animal” concept.
Exhibited at Leerdam Glass Museum
The industrial design process was invented for the purposes of the mass processing of pigs into meat. This design process defines what a domestic pig represents for us on a conceptual level: a manufactured, serial pig.
Since the industrial design process is so integral to the identity of a domestic pig, I reconstructed a pig out of glass with the mold-blowing technique – a medieval craftsmanship method that predates serial industrial design and delivers unique, precious one-offs.
