A living wearable that must be taken outside daily, even especially when it rains.
According to science, we spend 87 to 93 percent of our lives indoors. In order to encourage a more out-of-door lifestyle, I designed a living winter coat out of wheat, because wheat is an outdoor plant that can only thrive if the owner regularly wears it outside in order to expose it to outdoor conditions. After several experiments with roots and jute, I succeeded in creating a fabric base from which the plant sprouted. The leaves resemble faux fur, which led me to opt for the winter fur coat visual.
While indoors, Flora livens up the interior as a quirky hanging plant, but it also serves as a mental reminder of the world that’s waiting outdoors.
